We hear more and more about autism in the media and it seems as though there is an increase in the numbers that are in our schools. Most educators know the basic characteristics of autism by now. However, we can’t assume that all students with autism are going to experience autism in the same way or will benefit from the exact same interventions and strategies. I love the saying “If you’ve met one child with autism, you’ve met ONE child with autism. Yes, there are certain criteria to meet in order to fit the diagnosis but the combination and variance of characteristics is what makes each one unique. Given this uniqueness, creating educational programming that is innovative and effective can be a challenge for many in the field of education. Many methods exist and many are packaged and sold as the “remediation” to autism but keep in mind that the consensus among the experts is that there is no ONE way to treat autism.

This site is my attempt to provide those working with these special kids basic information on autism and strategies to help assist with success in both special and general education classes. I have been both a classroom educator and a consultant for children with autism for many years. Most of the visuals that I am allowing free access to are of my own design so please be respectful of their use. As I discover new information I will be adding it to this site so keep checking back.

Thanks for visiting.
